Sinopsis

Learn how habits shape a child’s mind and how psychology can guide smarter teaching. This practical guide explains how to foster thinking, discipline, and growth in the classroom.

Designed for teachers and educators, this volume presents clear, action‑oriented ideas about how the mind develops and how to support it through everyday practice. It emphasizes the central role of habit in learning, showing why routine, consistent actions matter more than clever maxims. You'll find guidance on balancing intellect, sensitivity, and will to help each child grow toward their best potential.

The book also lays out how modern psychology can be used in school settings. It covers methods of inquiry, the link between body and mind, and the basics of sensation, perception, and brain function. Throughout, the focus stays on practical application—how to observe, measure, and train with methods that fit real classrooms and real students.

  • Understand how habit formation drives learning and how to cultivate durable, beneficial routines.

  • Explore the routines and tools of psychological study used to inform teaching.

  • See how perception, senses, and brain function relate to classroom improvement.

  • Get concrete strategies for object lessons, excursions, and other concrete approaches that enhance observation and memory.

Ideal for readers who teach or study education, as well as anyone curious about how psychology translates into everyday learning.

Reseña del editor

Excerpt from Practical Lessons in Psychology

Within the past year the author has, at various institutes and other gatherings of teachers, delivered lectures on Psychology, chiefly on those phases that must and do come in for a large share of consideration on the part of every successful teacher. The speculative form which Psychology sometimes assumes found no place in those discussions, but only such features as are quite in touch with the ordinary experience of the average teacher in our common schools. The writer was surprised, and at the same time very much gratified, at the intense interest they evoked. At the solicitation of a large number of these same teachers, the lectures have accordingly been gathered together, and, with slight modifications and the advantage of much addi tional material, are now presented in book form.
