Excerpt from Religion Manual
This volume, I believe, presages a new era in the teaching Of religion. Built upon the solid principles Of pedagogy, it possesses a charm and simplicity that surprise us. With this volume in hand the teacher Of religion can lead the little ones joyfully to God. Here definitions, difficult terminology, and memorizing have been dis carded. The author bases his system upon child intuition and the natural religion implanted in the heart of the child at creation. Here the child is taught to think and to express his thoughts. This is the soul Of teaching. The teacher enters into the child's own plane of experience, and gently leads the child in its own progression Of thought to the great truths Of religion. She engages the children in conversation, and by adroit questions and suggestions she directs their thought to both the teaching and the practice of religion.

Excerpt from Religion Manual
One of the most vital questions confronting us to-day is that of religious instruction. The simple teaching of other days will no longer serve the needs of the present time. The complexity of modern life and the spread of human knowledge call for deeper and broader acquaintance with the divine truths of Faith. Education has progressed and expanded to meet the growing needs of society. New methods and systems have been invented to make secular teaching more effective. This naturally calls for more effective religious teaching. If our people are to withstand the distractions and temptations of modern life they must be so trained in the knowledge and practice of the Faith that religion will pervade their life and all its activities. Too often religious instruction has been reduced to a cold form of intellectualism. It has been directed to the memory and intellect alone. But this form of teaching has failed deplorably. Religion is more than a work of the intellect.
