Excerpt from Practice and Science of Religion a Study of Method: In Comparative Religion
These lectures were delivered at the General Theolo gical Seminary in New York during January and F eb ruary of this year. The general topic assigned for the lectures was Comparative Religion. My interest in this subject, persistent for many years, was first aroused a, the Paddock Lecturer for 1882, a man who stimulated all my ideals, who revealed to me the charm of the scholar's life, and who bound my life to his in loyal admiration forever. To him I have ventured to dedicate this work.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the evolution of religions, their historical backdrop, and their continuing relevance to contemporary spirituality. The author argues that, in stark contrast to the prevailing scientism of the 19th and early 20th centuries, religions and spirituality are far from anachronistic; they have an important place in the quest for a meaningful life. The book presents religions as a set of ideas and practices that have emerged over the centuries to help individuals and communities navigate the complexities of life. It examines the inner personal experience of religion, arguing that the human desire to contrast the self from the world has been a primary driver in the construction of religious systems. The book draws on the author's unique expertise to trace the development of religions from their primitive origins to their modern expressions, arguing that religious insights are a type of mental energy that can be harnessed to help us make sense of our place in the universe.
