Excerpt from Distribution of Mollusk Shells in the Sediments of Florida Bay
Only the Pelecypoda and Gastropoda met all of our requirements. Chitons and scaphopods are not widely enough distributed to be of use in the field, but, being mollusks, they have been included in the statistical samples. The pioneering work of Turney, done in 1958 and published in 1972 (turney and Perkins, showed that the clams and snails are distributed in an understandable manner. The present study extends and refines the basic patterns recognized by Turney.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book's origins lie in a project that began in 1964 to model the conditions under which calcium carbonate sediments develop. The author and colleagues needed a field technique that could be used to provide usable subdivisions of muddy areas and chose to use mollusks as they are abundant, have shells, are large enough to be seen in the field, and are sessile, meaning their remains accumulate where they originate. The author provides insight into the mollusks that can be found in Florida Bay and the adjacent reef tract including both gastropods and pelecypods, based on analysis of 321 samples containing more than 90,000 specimens. With a focus on biofacies rather than taxonomy, the author's observations yield an understanding of the molluscan biofacies of the area, addressing distribution and environmental interpretation. The text includes numerous photographs, plates, and figures. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
