Excerpt from Dredging Engineering
With the reader's indulgence We will explain just what this small book is by first defining what it is not. It is not a compendium Of statistics. Neither is it a record Of the actual performance Of specific dredges Of all kinds and under all conditions; nor yet a compilation Of dredging cost data. Such information is already minutely available in the Annual Reports of the Chief of Engineers, U. S. Army, and in the records Of the various departments of commonwealths and municipalities controlling dredging operations in their respective localities.

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book examines dredging engineering, the practice of extracting valuable materials and managing water depth through the use of specialized machinery. Beginning with an overview of the field, the author describes the different types of dredges, including the two main varieties: bucket dredges and hydraulic dredges. Further chapters focus on the components and operation of bucket dredges, with special attention to grapple dredges and dipper dredges. The book delves into the complexities of dredge design, such as boom dynamics and stress analysis, and explores the factors involved in planning and executing dredging projects, such as site exploration and estimating quantities. The author draws from historical examples and industry best practices to illustrate the technical and practical considerations involved in dredging, providing a comprehensive guide to this essential engineering discipline.
