Pictorial Illustrations of the Holy Scriptures have during the last half century increased in numbers and importance. The increased means of travel have given thousands of people the opportunity of visiting the countries described in the Scriptures. This book performs the duty not only of describing all the living creatures mentioned in the Scriptures as well as the trees and flowers, but it enters the wider field of Natural History, and enables the student to compare the fauna and flora of Bible lands with those of other countries. The materials are selected from original and accurate sources, condensed into moderate compass.

The illustrations to the work require little or no comment. There are very few similar works with which they can be compared, and we are fain to believe are unequalled by any.

For himself, the Editor, in conclusion, does not think it inconsistent with modesty to aver, that no pains have been wanting on his part, to collect and condense the largest amount of modern information, into as small a compass as possible.
