The research project is focused on formation development for the assualt support community (C-130, V-22). The project will first research and establish the capabilities and limitations associated with optimizing the human eye for formation flight use, i.e., formation positioning and air threat detection. The eye will also be discussed by inter-relating formations and viewing targets from threat perspectives while at a high/medium altitude and searching for aircraft at low altitude. The methodolgy for this project is to conduct a search for existing information on the human eye, related to detection. Then evaluate current formation types in use by the assault support community to determine applicability. Through the research findings, formation types will be either substantiated or alternatives will be proposed.
