Oomp.--O. ratio for R, Si, fl=1: 4: 2; whence, if half of the water is basic, 2:4: 1; and the formula (ifi+i Ca) Si+i ft=Silica 666, lime 26-4, water 170=100. It has the prismatic angle nearly of amphibole, to which it is related in composition. Analyses: 1, 2, v. Kobell (L c); 3, Connel (1. c.); 4, Wurth (Pogg., It. 118); 5, v. Hauer (Jahrb. G. Reichs., 1864, 190); 6, Schmid (Pogg., cxxvL 143); 7, Adam (1. c.): fl 17-00, Si and Fe 0-53, K r.=99-76 Koboa 16-65=99-99 Kobeft 14-71, Mn 0-22, Fe 082, K 023, fia 044=100-44 ConneL 17-94, Si 0-46, fta 102=100-45 Wurth. 1804, Mg r.=10008 Hauer. 13-97, Mg 1-58, £a 0-23=99-72 Schmid. G.=2-324. 14-19, Si 0-67, Na 104=97-94 Adam. Pyr., etc.--In a matrass yields water. B.B. alone becomes opaque and white, and fuses to a glass. Effervesces with soda, and fuses to a subtransparent glass, which is milk-white on cooling; with borax forms a transparent colorless glass. Gelatinizes readily in muriatic acid. Obs.--Occurs in trap or related eruptive rocks. Found at the Faroe Islands; in Iceland; on the island of Disko, Greenland. 342. GYROLITE. Gurolite Anderson, PhiL Mag., IV. L 101, 1851. Gyrolite. In concretions, lamellar-radiate in structure. H.=3--i. Lustre vitreous to pearly. Color white. Translucent, becoming opaque. K H 1418=99-85. 1-60 1506=99-78. Pyr., etc.--In a closed tube yields water, intumesces, and separates into thin scales. B.B. swells up and ruses with difficulty to an opaque enamel. Obs.--From the Isle of Skye, with stilbite, laumontite, etc.; also N. Scotia, 26 m. S.W. of 0. Blomidon, between Margaretvillc and Port George, on apophyllite.
