Intituled, " An Act to repeal the Duties imposed "by an Act, made in the last Session or Par"liament, for granting an Aid and Contri"bution for the Prosecution of the War; and e to make more effectual Provision for the like Purpose, by granting certain Duties upon "Income, in Lieu of the said Duties." l9lb January 1799. TH E Act recites, that the provisions made by an Act of the last Session of Parliament, 38 Geo. III. cap. 16. intituled, An At7 for granting to His Majesty an Aid and Contribution for the Prosecution of the war, have in sundry instances been greatly evaded, and that many persons are not assessed under the said Act in a just proportion to their means of contributing to the public service; and that so much of the said Act as charges any person with an additional duty in proportion to the amount of the duties to which such person was assessed according to any assessments made in pursuance of any Acts in force at the time of passing the said recited Act, or as appoints commissioners for executing the same, or for hearing and determining Appeals, shall be, and the same is hereby repealed from and after the Fifth day of April 1799; except in cases hereinafter mentioned, and in all cases relating to the recovering, collecting, paying, or accounting for any arrears of the assessments charged by the said Act, which may become payable on or besore the said Fifth of April 1799, and may after that time remain unpaid; or to the recovering any penalty which shall have been then incurred under the said Act. she The New Duties on Income. «.
