The Fearsome Island is a novel written by Albert Kinross, originally published in 1896. The story follows the narrative of Silas Fordred, a master mariner from Hythe, who embarks on a perilous journey to a mysterious island in the South Pacific. The island is said to be cursed, with tales of supernatural beings and deadly traps that have claimed the lives of many sailors before him. Silas is determined to uncover the truth behind the island's fearsome reputation, but soon finds himself facing unimaginable dangers and unexpected allies. As he navigates through the treacherous terrain, Silas uncovers a plot that threatens to destroy not only his own life but also the lives of those he holds dear. The Fearsome Island is a thrilling adventure story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.Whose Shipwreck And Subsequent Adventures Are Herein Set Forth. English of the original version. I am no great scholar, being more interested in the humanity of things than in their aesthetics ;and, in the retelling of this story, I find that I have been completely overpowered by the original version, so that the language in which this history is here set forth is no language. I have, however, let it stand, as I feel that the leisurely dialect that I have instinctively adopted is more in keeping with the character and surroundings of Silas Fordred than the crisp, clear-cut phraseology of to-day.
