""The Problem of Evil: Seven Lectures"" is a philosophical work by Ernest Naville that delves into the complex issue of the existence of evil in the world. In this book, Naville presents a series of lectures where he explores different aspects of the problem of evil, including its philosophical, theological, and moral implications. Naville begins by examining the different definitions of evil and its relationship with suffering, pain, and injustice. He then goes on to explore the various ways in which evil has been explained throughout history, from the classical philosophical theories of Plato and Aristotle to the religious doctrines of Christianity and Islam. Throughout the book, Naville also addresses some of the most pressing questions related to the problem of evil, such as the nature of God's role in the world, the existence of free will, and the possibility of redemption and salvation. He also discusses the ethical implications of the problem of evil, including how it affects our moral responsibility and our understanding of justice and fairness. Overall, ""The Problem of Evil: Seven Lectures"" is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of one of the most enduring and challenging philosophical questions of all time. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the nature of evil, the human condition, and the meaning of life. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The Lectures collected into this volume were offered to the public of Geneva, and afterwards to the public of Lausanne, under the title of The Problem of Evil, a Philosophical Study. Very large audiences having responded to this invitation, it became necessary to lay aside scholastic terms and expressions, in order to present the results of scientific investigation in a literary form, and in a style intelligible to all. It was no less necessary to preserve the philosophical character of the proposed study, to grapple with the difficulties of the problem, and to refrain from substituting rhetoric for argument. I have endeavoured, as far as possible, to meet the twofold requirements imposed by the nature of the subject and the composition of the audience.
