Both are in two short sections, each of which repeats. At the conclusion of the second Minuet the first is replayed without repeats, the violas being-added in the brief coda which completes the movement. The fifth movement is another Scherzo--in D major, Allegro and 3-4 time--although it is neither so long nor so elaborate as the second movement. The first part (the Scherzo proper) is developed from the following theme, announced by the solo horn with a counter-melody in the violoncellos: No. 10.--F In the Trio the horn again carries the theme, against running figurations in the violas and violoncellos:--No. 11. Horns. This Trio is in two sections, both repeating, and is followed by a repetition of the Scherzo. The sixth and last movement is a brilliant rondo--in D major, Allegro and 2-4 time--for which two quotations will suffice--the first theme, given out at the start by the violoncellos, clarinets and bassoons; and the second, which comes in the first violins, accompanied by running triplet figurations in the violas--all over long sustained tones in the horns and violoncellos.
