Voice Building: A New and Correct Theory for the Mechanical Formation of the Human Voice is a book written by Horace R. Streeter and originally published in 1871. The book provides a comprehensive theory for the mechanical formation of the human voice, covering topics such as the anatomy of the vocal organs, the physiology of voice production, and the proper techniques for voice training and development.Streeter’s theory is based on the idea that the human voice is a mechanical system that can be trained and developed through the proper use of the vocal organs. He emphasizes the importance of proper breathing, posture, and vocal exercises in the development of a strong and healthy voice. The book includes detailed descriptions and illustrations of the vocal organs, as well as exercises and drills for improving vocal range, pitch, and tone. Streeter also provides guidance on how to avoid common vocal problems such as hoarseness, strain, and fatigue.Voice Building is a valuable resource for anyone interested in developing their vocal abilities, whether for singing, public speaking, or other forms of communication. It remains a classic text in the field of voice training and is still widely used by vocal coaches, singers, and actors today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The present work is the result of more than twenty years experience. It has been undertaken at the earnest solicitation of friends and pupils, and it is believed to be the only work which really treats upon the mechanical formation of the human voice. Many theories are before the public which are designed to form and develope the voice. Musical authors and elocutionists have presented to the public a mass of material which, to say the least, is contradictory. Our experiences are here embodied, and we sincerely hope that they may prove beneficial to all who feel an interest in the art of Voice Building. It will be observed that we have confined our treatment entirely to the mechanical part of the work; forming the instrument, so to speak, by following fixed laws or rules, which prove themselves to be practically correct.
