This edited work provides the first comprehensive account of how connectivity concepts and methods are applied in geomorphology. Addressing both qualitative and quantitative aspects, this volume demonstrates how the powerful conceptual framework of connectivity can be used to effectively describe material transfer between geomorphic system components. The book begins by introducing the key elements of connectivity science, drawing from a broad range of disciplines. The latest research on connectivity is then presented for each major process domain, including hillslopes, rivers and glaciers. Methods of quantification and measurement are described, providing an overview of methodologies and indices that can be used to assess connectivity as a property of soils and landscapes, and approaches for modelling connectivity are reviewed. The book concludes with an examination of applications of connectivity thinking in environmental management. Accessible and self-contained, this text is a key resource for practitioners, researchers and graduate students in geomorphology.

Ronald E. Pöppl is Senior Researcher at the BOKU University Vienna and a research group leader of the HI-CONN Working Group (Human Impact and Connectivity). His research interests include water and sediment connectivity in river (catchment) systems, as well as fluvial and hillslope geomorphology, with a focus on human impact.
Anthony J. Parsons is Emeritus Professor at the University of Sheffield. His research interests include hillslopes, dryland geomorphology and soil erosion. He has chaired Working Group 1 of EU COST Action ES1306 (Connecting European Connectivity Research). He is a former chair of the International Geographical Union Commission on Geomorphic Challenges for the Twenty-First Century and a former Chair of the British Geomorphological Research Group (now the British Society for Geomorphology).
Saskia D. Keesstra is Senior Researcher at EIT Climate-KIC and Wageningen University & Research. Her research interests include soils as part of a larger system, system dynamics, regional transformations and the consequences of natural and human drivers on connectivity, with a focus on methodology development and the dissemination of science. She was the chair of EU COST Action ES1306 (Connecting European Connectivity Research) and promoted connectivity research during her time as President of the Soil System Science Division of the European Geosciences Union. Her current work focusses mainly on policy advice related to sustainable soil and water management at the EU level funded under the Mission A Soil Deal for Europe and Horizon Europe.
