Reseña del editor

Becent events in the East have brought Ecumania prominently to the front. Much interest lias therefore been excited in the public mind Tvdth regard to a principality hitherto almost unknown. To the best of my belief, no book on the country has ever been written by an Englishman in the English language. It is with a view to supplying a want admittedly felt that I have penned this work. I have been encouraged in this attempt by the attention vouchsafed to certain jlrticles of mine which have appeared in Temple Bar and the University Magazine and short extracts from which are to be found in these pages from time to time. My object has been throughout to give my readers a general idea of the country, without going too much into detail, which might have proved wearisome to many.
