Sinopsis

An Omnibus of Dime Novels from the Nineteenth Century.

Once avidly devoured by youth across the States, these short novels are home to one of the greatest heroes in American literature, though his thrilling exploits are now sadly largely lost to time. Once upon a time, the adventures of Deadwood Dick, outlaw and Prince of the Road, were read by millions of boys, who awaited his next adventure hungrily.

Originally published as weekly dime novels, these short novels are now being republished in a series of volumes, each containing 4 or 5 works by Edward L. Wheeler. Now, Wheeler's later novels are presented, many of which have not been republished since their first appearance in the 1880's. The eponymous hero makes an appearance in at least one story in each of these continuing volumes, though quite a few star other characters.

This Volume, the 24th in the series, contains the dime novels:

Deadwood Dick in New York; Or, "A Cute Case."
On the train to New York Deadwood Dick is robbed by a cunning woman pickpocket. On a quest to recover his riches, the Prince of the Road finds that New York is just as dangerous a nest of villainy as any place he has been in the West.

Old Hayseed Among Bunco Men; Or, Sol Sharpe, Detective.
Forced by circumstance to resume his former profession of private detective, Solomon Sharpe takes a job brought him by Molly the papergirl, that of finding a woman trapped in a private asylum somewhere in New York City. But with little to go on, hunting up the prisoner and foiling the schemes of those who hold her captive, will take all of Sol's skills.

Sol Sharpe, The New York Night-Hawk; Or, Piping the Hayden Case.
While cycling through the countryside near Pottsville, Sol Sharpe rescues Capitola from an attempted kidnapping and finds himself drawn into an insidious plot to rob the young woman of her family home and inheritance.

Billy Bub, The Prize Detective; Or, The Bootblack's Luck. Also known as: Billy Bub, the Double Prize Detective; Or, Old Arsenic's Secret.
When Billy Bub takes on two detective jobs in the same day, one for the merchant Warren Phillips and the other for Old Arsenic, the beggar, little does he know that the cases are inextricably linked and involve a longstanding family feud.
