Howard Winston, Area Manager for Composer Restaurants, is dead. Eight people are with him, at the moment he dies, yet none of them mourn his passing.This was no natural passing, however, this was murder and every other person in that room would happily take the credit for killing him.Chief Inspector Dickson is assigned the case and it soon becomes obvious to him that he is dealing with a group of people who all had motive for wanting Winston dead. Dickson's knows that one of the eight is a murderer, but proving which one it was will turn out to be anything but easy. To help him reduce his suspect list, Dickson has to learn about the world of hospitality and the often unique problems, which that world brings to management.Chief Inspector Dickson's investigation will take him across Scotland as he interviews and then re-interviews his suspects until, eventually, he identifies his murderer. As he does this, however, he must also try and sort out the mess he has recently made of his life.
