Being a victim of childhood sexual abuse can dictate your adult emotions. But your mind can heal. "Tree Leaves: Breaking the Fall of the Loud Silence" provides support for survivors to develop positive thinking patterns. Each of the 366 gems of daily inspiration reminds survivors that they are not alone in healing from hidden abuse and childhood trauma. The trauma-informed support is offered to restore mental health and give survivors the courage to heal. The book uses the power of words to change how survivors think about their experience of childhood sexual abuse. Healing the wounded heart from dissatisfaction, depression, the inability to speak up, a lack of boundaries in relationships, or strict boundaries protected by anger and hostility is the focus of each affirmation.

Dr. Bakari is an author, speaker, and transformational poet focused on raising awareness of hidden pain. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Cornell University in Psychology to begin her career in counseling, and a Ph.D. at the University of Northern Colorado to transition from counseling to teaching. She taught psychology at the community college level, as well as private and state universities before founding Talking Trees, an empowerment organization for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. She founded the organization in 2010 when she began living openly as a survivor. Dr. Bakari has always loved writing and wrote her first book while she was a stay-at-home parent in 1994. Her poetry collection consists of over 150 poems and she enjoys participating in open mic events. She has 15 years of training in taekwondo and is an avid runner as well. She finds her mental strength through training her physical body, and uses her writing to "take out the trash."
