9780991604708: Capitalism Must Die!: A Basic Introduction: What Capitalism Is, Why It Sucks, and How to Crush It

Sinopsis

This 240-page book uses text and comics to explain in simple terms what capitalism is, how it works, why it's irredeemable, and what we can do to end it. Oppression, ecocide, inequality, and exploitation can't be voted away or escaped. We can't get rid of them through consumer or lifestyle choices. To end the atrocities, we need to build a worldwide fight against capitalism! Part 1 of the book explains the economic mechanisms of capitalism, and why the growth imperative is built into it. Part 2 explains the kind of organizations we need to build and support, in order to have a fighting chance against this ruthless global system. Throughout, cartoons make the points even more clear (and might make you laugh as well). Stephanie McMillan, winner of the 2012 RFK Journalism Award, is the creator of the comics "Minimum Security," "Code Green," and six previous books (including two graphic novels plus "The Beginning of the American Fall," comics journalism about the Occupy movement, Seven Stories Press 2012). Her cartoons have run in hundreds of publications including the "Los Angeles Times," "South Florida Sun-Sentinel," Yahoo news, Daily Beast, "Yes!" magazine, "San Francisco Bay Guardian," and "The Occupied Wall Street Journal."She distills 30 years of experience in organizing against capitalism into this book, with the hope that people will not only read it, but also use it as an organizing tool to ultimately defeat this omnicidal system, and build a classless and sustainable way of life.***To view more of Stephanie's work, visit: stephaniemcmillan.org. ***Testimonials about Stephanie's work:“McMillan’s expressive style, pared down to the basics and intensified over the years, allows for instant communication of thoughtful rage.”– Comics Journal“Very talented.”– Washington Post“This is social satire at its wittiest and most engaging.”– Howard Zinn, author of A People’s History of the United States“Her politics are perfect, her drawings sly and subtle, and her dialog funny as hell.”– Derrick Jensen, author of Endgame“Visionary and honest.”– Ted Rall, president of Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, author of Anti-American Manifesto and To Afghanistan and Back“Minimum Security is like oxygen for our suffocating times.”– Vandana Shiva, author of Soil Not Oil: Environmental Justice in an Age of Climate Crisis” Razor-sharp critique packaged as cute-kid-and-funny-animal cartoon.”– Booklist“The cartoon generated a huge amount of filth, intolerable filth.”– Senator Bill Napoli, sponsor of abortion ban, South Dakota (Rapid City Journal)
