The 5 Acres & A Dream homesteading series reveals the nitty-gritty, down-and-dirty realities of working toward a simpler, sustainable, more self-reliant lifestyle on a self-sufficient homestead. Leigh and Dan Tate had a dream but very little money. This series shares how they made their dream a reality: facing the challenges, solving the problems, and sometimes changing their minds along the way. 5 Acres & A Dream The Book begins with the years leading up to the Tates’ 2009 purchase of a 1920s-built farm house on five neglected acres in the foothills of Southern Appalachia. Spanning five years of their lives, this first book in the series shares how they defined their dream, developed property hunting criteria, and finally found the right place. It describes how they set their goals and priorities, the difficulties and obstacles they faced, and what they've learned about energy, water, and food self-sufficiency for both themselves and their livestock.

Acerca del autor
Leigh Tate homesteads five acres in the foothills of the southern Appalachian Mountains with her husband Dan. Their goals are simpler, sustainable, more self-reliant living, and a return to agrarian values. In addition to critter keeping, gardening, food preservation, cheese making, and woodstove cookery, Leigh loves to write about homesteading. She is the author of the popular 5 Acres & A Dream The Book: The Challenges of Establishing a Self-Sufficient Homestead, an eBook series entitled The Little Series of Homestead How-Tos, and Critter Tales : What my homestead critters have taught me about themselves, their world, and how to be a part of it. Her ongoing homestead adventures can be read at her blog, 5 Acres & A Dream The Blog.
