Carr Hagerman spent 20 years as a street performer who loved business. When he was offered the opportunity to translate what he'd learned on the street to the business world, he jumped at the chance. The opportunity came when he spoke about FISH!, the number one corporate training video of all time. Carr became an international speaker on FISH! and eventually partnered up with Stephen Lundin, PhD, the author of 25 million FISH! books. Together they wrote "Top Performer; A Bold Approach to Sales and Service." The book uses the model of a street performer as a metaphor for how to do business. Carr and Steve hired Carr's brother, John Hagerman, to produce a video based on the Top Performer book and enlisted him to help build a training company based on the points in the book. Within a year they were providing training nationally for companies like Hampton Hotels, Best Buy, Outback Steakhouses and the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association. John Hagerman was a natural fit for Top Performer, having been a street performer in the service of selling a product, along with 20 years of business management and ownership experience. His passion for the company helped enable it to train over 18,000 people in just two years. Carr and John eventually teamed up to write "Learning to Fly; Lessons From a Real Life Superhero." The book is a retelling of a real life experience Carr had well on the road training the staff of a restaurant chain, Champps Americana. While on the road, Carr had an experience with a spiky-haired, skinny teen named Kevin while shopping at a Best Buy store. This kid provided Carr with the most extraordinary customer service experience he had ever had. The experience transformed Carr, and eventually thousands of other people, including his brother. What did the kid do? He did is job as a Superhero, flying around the store saving people time and money. Carr and John imagined what it would be like to have a whole company of people who did their jobs as Superheroes, and the book was born. They reveal a process for becoming an Everyday Superhero that anyone can use to become fully engaged and wholehearted in their work and in their lives. John was a perfect partner for Carr in the endeavor. With two degrees in writing, and experience in business and on the street, he took Carr's story and crafted a compelling story anyone can use to live life more powerfully.
