Eleven pregnant mares are missing. They are the property of seventeen-year-old Alejendra Rodriguez--Alex for short. Alex’s grandmother sends her to Henry, the oldest and the best tracker in the territory. His reputation for tracking is unsurpassed. It is 1915 and Henry, sitting on the porch of the Neeley Hotel, has seen better days. His reluctance to help her, born of age and worn-out body parts, is overcome by an ancient promise he must keep, a remnant of the past. What the young girl, and the old man uncover is much more than missing horses. They discover a man driven by his obsession for power to extreme measures, a prize winning horse, murderous assassins, an unsuspecting young cowboy and the age-old tenacity of friendship and young love.
