PREP SCHOOL DAYS, The Seminary at the University of Notre Dame When reading PREP SCHOOL DAYS, it quickly becomes obvious that Holy Cross Seminary was no place for wimps. Many of the resident Priests at Holy Cross were not only gifted teachers but superb athletes who had “been there.” While they were providing seminarians the opportunity to experience spiritual growth, to play hard, but fair, on the playing field and to develop a life-long work/study ethic, the young men were attempting to adapt to a strict seminary regimen while living on the campus of a world-famous, Catholic university. The author’s intention had always been to “give back” to Holy Cross and Notre Dame for an unparalleled life experience and education. Over the years this prompted recording memories that became several dozen abstracts of his personal experiences at “the Little Sem.” PREP SCHOOL DAYS’ actual journey began following a Holy Cross reunion in 2000, held at Notre Dame. An alumni friend urged the author to put pen to paper and elaborate on his perceptions of Holy Cross. Not long after the writing effort began, a spirit of cooperation sprung up among the Congregation of Holy Cross. Priests at Notre Dame, some who had attended Holy Cross, showed an interest in the project. Offers to read and edit the manuscript were received. Several former seminarians volunteered to verify story time and place. Even the Sisters of Notre Dame became interested in the effort. Over recent months PREP SCHOOL DAYS has received dozens of supportive emails and letters from around the country, from former Holy Cross classmates and their families, and from Holy Cross Priests and Notre Dame alumni and faculty... “I applaud the work of Andrew Stevans to celebrate the fine, whole-person education provided by the Congregation of Holy Cross at its Prep Seminary (“The Little Sem”) on the Notre Dame campus.
