Strahlendorf; Eaton's Beauty Chapter by Judy Tomlinson Ross; Booklore Publishers Ltd., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, 1986. First Printing October 1986. From the blurb This book is for all doll collectors, museums, libraries, antique dealers, doll stores, and flea market operators. It contains the dates, names, and characteristics to identify about one thousand Canadian dolls from prehistoric times to the present, with the emphasis on dolls of this century manufactured commercially and dolls made by Canadian artists. Also included are about fifty dolls sold by The T. Eaton Co. Limited labeled as Eaton's Beauties. Many of the Eaton Beauty dolls were made by European companies like J. D. Kestner, Armand Marseille, and Cuno and Otto Dressel. However, they are included because they are an integral part of Canadian doll history. Attention is devoted to the doll industry in Canada and how the manufacturing process evolved from bisque and composition dolls through the various plastics to the dolls of today. Reproduction dolls are not presented, although two are shown as working dolls. With few exceptions, every doll described in this book has been personally examined by the author. This book is also intended for a special class of doll enthusiast whom we call the closet collector. There are then of thousands of these doll lovers in North America who have dolls and may also collect dolls, but do not admit this pleasure to others. This large book, 421 pages measuring 280mm X 215mm, is in near-fine condition. The fault being a small, 60mm X 5mm, sticky strip on the front endpaper where a label has been removed. The dust jacket is also in near-fine condition, its only fault a slight ripple on the back cover. The dust jacket is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. The book had hundreds of black and white photographs and a twenty-page section of four to a page colour photographs. A very scarce and important book on Canadian dolls a cornerstone book of any collection. This large and heavy book may require additional postage. Nº de ref. del artículo: 2177d
