A collection of The Recipe Gal's gluten-free, sugar-free recipes, born in the crucible of helping her husband beat cancer for over twenty-five years when he was originally given but eighteen months to live. "Nutrition IS our medicine," she says, "but 'medicine' need not taste like medicine. In fact, it can be as enjoyable to prepare as it is to eat.I learned to cook the old-fashioned way: a pinch of this, a dash of that, seasoned to taste and served with love. Many of those old-fashioned ways have been lost, and this book is my way of helping bring them back. Hence, this cookbook, which standardizes quantities and methods. That’s the 'science' of cooking ... your starting point. The 'art' of cooking is learning how to be flexible with that science and when (e.g., altitude, the efficiency of your heat source, the quality of your ingredients, etc.). May this cookbook help you enjoy your artistic journey!

Wendy Turner is the Recipe Gal. She is a grandmother of ten whose love of cooking began when she left home at age fifteen to pursue a career. Earning twenty-five cents per hour, she learned quickly what it was like to cook from scratch, pay bills and survive on minimum wage. Over the years, her knowledge of wholesome food and how to fix it has grown. “When it comes to cooking, love and knowledge should go hand-in-hand,” she says. “A pinch of this. A dash of that. Seasoned to taste and served with love. We’ve lost many of those old ways, and this recipe book is my way of bringing them back.” Born in Adelaide, South Australia, Wendy and her husband, James Houston Turner, a novelist, live in Austin, Texas.
