Back by popular demand, I understand this book is now in its first reprint having sold out (which for a technical book is rare). But I'm not surprised - it's a great product! Anyone involved in specifying, supplying, installing or operating uninterruptible power supplies should have a copy on the shelf for referencing at all times. It takes you right through the process - starting with an overview of electricity generation and distribution, it takes you right through the process of designing and securing a power protection solution specifically for you. It covers all sorts of installations - from industrial and medical to high-end server farms. The illustrations, diagrams and charts that litter its pages are clear and logical. It covers all the technical aspects but is so clearly presented I reckon your grandmother could understand it! The indexing is superb (unlike many technical books) which makes it easy to dip in and out of whenever you need to reference anything of refer back to a particular subject (the index tells you everywhere in the book that subject appears so you get the opportunity for an all-round view of every context and a clear understanding of the whole subject). It can be read from start to finish and by the end of it you'll be pretty much an expert and certainly able to put a case together for your own power protection needs. But you don't have to; anyone who deals with UPS on a regular basis should keep a copy on the shelf. One thing I don't like is the spine! My copy is so well used, it has started to fall apart, which can be annoying but I understand from the publisher that that has been fixed in this print run by more money being spent on better quality binding. True enough, they sent me a copy, which I gave to the kids to try and destroy and - surprise, surprise - it stood up to the test. All in all, this is a great book and (to coin a phrase) does exactly what it says on the tin! Marks out of ten? I'd give it a good 8! --Eric Jeffs, IT & Operations, FIMBA
