Taking a practical approach to the topic, this book focuses on the primary role played by parents in deciding whether to raise their children bilingually. The author attempts to answer such questions as whether to raise children bilingually and the problems involved, how this would affect their development, what their language learning process would be, and how utilize language in families where the parents have different native languages. Also included in this book is a Family Bilingualism Rating Scale which aims to guide parents in decisions made about raising children bilingually. "Raising Children Bilingually" is also available in Finnish, entitled "Tavoitteena Kaksikielisyys".
