Acerca de los autores
Frances F. Berdan is an American archaeologist specializing in the Aztecs and Professor Emerita of Anthropology at California State University, San Bernardino.
Richard E. Blanton is Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at Purdue University.
Elizabeth Hill Boone was Director of Pre-Columbian Studies at Dumbarton Oaks and teaches art history at Tulane University.
Mary Gottshall Hodge (1946–1996) was a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Houston–Clear Lake.
Emily Umberger was a Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Arizona.

The book is a comprehensive analysis of the economic and political geography of the Aztec empire. It is the fruit of a joint research project among ethnohistorians, archaeologists, and art historians. The authors researched every town in the Aztec empire, recording a set of standard information for each. They drew a new map of the empire by first plotting local towns and city-states and then grouping these by province.
