This title comprises the invited and contributed papers read at the Advanced Structural Materials, held in Cancun (Mexico) as part of the Annual Congress of the Mexican Academy of Materails Sceince (August 26th to 29th, 2002). The Advanced Structural Materials symposia have been held for nine years, with the object of presenting reviews and investigations which are related to advanced metallic, ceramic and composite structural materials. The topics covered include innovative processing techniques, phase transformations, mechanical properties and the relationship between processing, microstructure and mechanical behaviour. The proceedings should be of interest to anyone working on the preparation or use of advanced materials.
