Evgeny Vinokurov is one of Russia's most influential modern poets and poetry editor of Novy Mir, the leading Soviet literary journal. Boris Pasternak praised 'the originality and freshness' of his early work, qualities which his poetry has retained. Yevtushenko has written, 'I would say that Vinokurov's main theme is the tragic quality of everyday life.' In his poems, this Russian everyman manages to concretise philosophical concepts and, in his relaxed rhythms, to define psychological types with great insight.
Anthony Rudolf and Daniel Weissbort, both poets in their own right, have translated extensively from Russian and other literature.
