This work introduces a performance-based model of East Asian language teacher training, in which expertise is developed through guided rehearsal of well-defined performances. After a brief analysis of the need for such programs, the book discusses the importance of developing both declarative and procedural knowledge in language learners and teachers, and looks at issues such as motivation, lifelong capacities for learning, and the integration of theory, research, and instructional practice into the curriculum of a teacher- training program. Christensen is affiliated with Brigham Young University; Noda, with The Ohio State University. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
