"Successful Implementation of Integrated Pest Management for Agricultural Crops" highlights success stories in the use of integrated pest management (IPM) in a non-technical format. The book addresses concerns that led to the development of IPM and the history of its implementation and support from the US government in the 1970s. Successful IPM programmes for representative commodities are discussed in detail, especially in areas that traditionally use vast quantities of pesticides and fertilizer, such as corn, soybeans and cotton. The book also takes a detailed look at the American Farm Bureau's policy on IPM. The sociology of adopting new methods is examined, and interviews with farmers demonstrating how they adapt IPM to their individual situations are presented. Chapters on the IPM Forum and International Resistant Pest Management Congress and the National Coalition on IPM highlight co-operative efforts between the government and regulated community to reduce unnecessary pesticide use. Markey surveys of consumer attitudes toward organic produce and the importance of IPM in the long-term goal of providing food for the world's needs are considered as well.
