This book is a logical and necessary follow-up to the authors first book, Statistical First Aid, a highly successful textbook for those wishing to be comfortable consumers of the health research literature. Statistical Operations carries the topic further for those who contribute to that literature. Traditional statistical topics are thoroughly discussed as well as other methods that play important roles in the analysis of basic and clinical data. The text employs many practice problems and includes as appendixes answers to those problems, statistical tables, flow charts summarizing the statistical methods, as well as offering free software working out some of these problems.

This text introduces readers to more advanced statistical procedures, building on the framework of the authors introductory text, Statistical First Aid. It takes readers to a level where they can interpret the analyses most frequently used in the health research literature. Advanced topics such as Bayes Theorem, testing the underlying assumptions of a statistical procedure, estimating the required size of a planned sample, and applying exact tests are just some of the methods presented. A tutorial diskette is packaged with the book to enhance learning.
