This is the final volume in a series which has been compiled from the personal memories of the staff of the Isle of Wight rail system. Signalmen and station staff recount a variety of amusing tales and anecdotes. The Island's railways were always a "law unto themselves" and many operating practices would have been undreamt of on the mainland. The present-day success of the preserved Isle of Wight Steam Railway, recently extended to link up with British Rail's electrified Ryde to Shanklin Line, shows that the popularity and interest in this railway network is as strong as ever. The book is compiled from the personal recollections of members of staff of the Island's old steam railways, many of whom were well-known personalities on the Island. Illustrated with a superb selection of photographs from several well-known railway photographers, the majority of which are previously unpublished.
