Based largely on papers previously published in the journal British Birds Vols 71-74, 1978-81. "An enlarged and much revised version of those papers, with many new and additional photographs .deals with the 23 species of gulls (about half the world total) which occur in Europe, the Middle East and eastern North America." This second edition of Peter Grant's guide has been extensively revised and has been reset. Importantly, a further eight species of gulls occurring on the west coasts of Canada and the USA have been added.
