Hard Covers. Condición: NF. Estado de la sobrecubierta: VG+. Photos, Art Ilustrador. 1st. This history of the Rhodesian African Rifles (RAR) in WWII was one of the publisher's prolific "Famous Regiments" series and it was probably the youngest of all the units covered, being formed in 1939, athough it could trace its ancestry back to WWI in which a Rhodesian Native Regiment "fought with distinction" against the enemy forces in German East. Established in difficult circumstances, particularly regarding equipment and supplies, the RAR was sent to East Africa in 1943 although operations against the Italians had long ended. From there, as the end of the year approached, RAR sailed to Ceylon to prepare for action against the Japanese in Burma, arriving, via India, at the beginning of 1945 and serving there with great credit, particularly in the Arakan campaign and up to the Japanese surrender in August 1945. It was not until May the following year that the RAR troops were welcomed home. Post-war the Rifles were to have further service, in the Suez Canal Zone and for two years fighting the Communist guerillas in Malaya, where their inherited skills in jungle fighting in Burma were futher refined. In his introduction to the book General Sir Brian Horrocks noted that the RAR was then '''once more engaged in jungle warfare," this time as Rhodesia confronted its own internal conflict. First edition of 1970 by Leo Cooper, 75 pages including bibliography and roll of honour lists, illustrated with six b/w photos plus two art works and three campaign maps.
