The great paradox of science in the twentieth century is that the more we learn, the less we seem to know. In this volume, John Templeton and scientist Robert Herrmann address this paradox.Reviewing the latest findings in fields from particle physics to archaeology, from molecular biology to cosmology, the book leads the reader to see how mysterious the universe is, even to the very science that seeks to reduce it to a few simple principles.Far from concluding that religion and science are in opposition, the book shows how these two fields of inquiry are intimately linked, and how much they can offer to one another.Formerly published by Continuum in 1994.

Though technological advances have provided more knowledge of the universe and its inhabitants, there still remains a deep desire for meaning, for a cosmic explanation of ultimate significance. This book explore the frontiers of physical and biological science, and shows how such exploration leads to a greater mystery with ever more profound implications about what is real.
Templeton is chairman of the Templeton Foundations and president of the First Trust Bank, Nassau, Bahamas.
Robert L. Herrmann is adjunct professor of chemistry at Gordon College in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and former director of the Science and Religion Course Programs through the John Templeton Foundation. Dr. Herrmann is the author of numerous books in the field of science and religion, and co-author with Sir John Templeton of two books, The God Who Would Be Known and Is God the Only Reality?
