Don Regier has one of those fancy advanced degrees Dallas Theological Seminary where he's now the associate professor of Christian education. But he is a man in love with his family. He and his wife Jan have six kids. Two of which they adopted from China . . . they are obviously the inspiration for this story.

Karen Pritchett was born in Punxsutawney, Penn. (think Groundhog Day!), went to college in Pittsburgh, and then moved to Brooklyn. In addition to being a college professor teaching art for fashion design at FIT and at Pratt Institute in New York City, she owns and operate a bed & breakfast in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. She is the illustrator for a variety of children's books including The Secret Garden, Grimm's Fairty Tales, and The Gift.

The journeys combine in the middle of the book where the two groups become a family.
