This annual publication sets out a statistical snapshot of the progress being made on a range of economic and social development issues and the challenges remaining, both at national level and aggregated globally. The 2007 edition includes over 800 indicators for some 152 economies (with populations of more than one million) and 14 country groups, together with selected indicators for 56 smaller economies, organised under six thematic headings: world view, people, environment, economy, states and markets, and global links. Most of the statistics are compiled from data provided by national statistical agencies, and indicators are given for the most recent year or period for which data is available, and in most tables for an earlier year or period (usually 1990). The publication is also available in CD-ROM single-user (ISBN 9780821369616) and multi-user (ISBN 9780821369623) versions.
