This study examines the trade and development challenges facing the countries of Central America in the next decade, especially those associated with the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) between Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua and the United States. It focuses on three key themes: expected trade and non-trade benefits; actions that Central American countries will need to take to capitalise on new opportunities; and population groups that are likely to need assistance in the transition to a more competitive economic environment.
