"Astronomer, climatologist, founder of tree-ring dating, Douglass was to become a legendary figure in his adopted Arizona. This book tells his story and does so in clear English free of jargon for the general reader as well as the expert."--Science Books and Films "The definitive work on Douglass, one of the outstanding scientists of America's Southwest."--Library Journal"Andrew Ellicott Douglas, the most renowned scientist of Arizona, merited a full-length book on his achievements even before his death two decades ago at age 94. The astronomer's interest in predicting sunspots led to his discovery and development of the science of dendrochronology, or tree-ring dating. That in turn revolutionized archaeology in the Southwest, and began wide-ranging applications of it to the study of past and future climates of the entire globe."--Books of the Southwest"A welcome addition to the history of science. . . . Well-written and will prove useful to those working with the history of archaeology."--North American Archaeologist"A very readable portrayal of the impressive accomplishments of a very remarkable man."--Journal of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science
