Divided into distinct movements of thanksgiving, intercession, and petition, the prayers address the immediate human struggles of modern metropolitan life and engage directly with the social, ethical, and spiritual concerns of the early 1970s, including civil rights, urban poverty, and the responsibilities of the church in contemporary society. Campbell served as senior minister of Riverside Church from 1968 to 1976, succeeding Harry Emerson Fosdick and Robert J. McCracken, and was regarded as one of the most articulate voices of progressive Protestant preaching in his generation. The 1973 publication was issued by Association Press, the official publishing house of the National Council of the YMCA, which distributed ecumenical theology and social justice texts throughout the mid-twentieth century. The title derives from Frank Mason North's 1903 Social Gospel hymn. The half-title page carries the ownership signature of Dallas Stallings Jr., a Southern Baptist minister who served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke, Virginia, during the period of this book's publication. Collected in the fields of Social Gospel theology, progressive pastoral prayer, and twentieth-century Protestant homiletics. Signed by Other. Nº de ref. del artículo: C1VG-ES061526J9
