THE EMERGING DIACONATE looks at the proliferation of the permanent deacons in the Latin Church especially since the Order was “renewed” to a permanent ecclesiastical rank in 1967. Deacon Ditewig focuses on the traditional view of the deacon as a kenotic “servant,” but balances this self-emptying view of the deacon with theosis, the Eastern Catholic belief based on St. Paul’s phrase that deacons “fill-up” in Christ just as they pour themselves out in service of His Church. Acerca del autor
Deacon William T. Ditewig, PhD, is associate professor of theology and religious studies at St. Leo University outside of Tampa, FL. He authored Paulist Press's The Deacon at Mass (2007), 101 Questions & Answers on Deacons (2004) and contributed to Theology of the Diaconate: The State of the Question (2005) and The Deacon Reader (2006) both by Paulist Press. He is a retired commander from the United States Navy.
