Wallace Stevens, one of the premier poets of the twentieth century, was a spiritual searcher all his life, a man who used the intricate areas and patterns of poetry to reflect on the God who seemed so distant and so close. In this fascinating new book Charles Murphy uses the poems of Wallace Stevens as the map which provides clues to the spiritual search of this very private man.After giving a sketch of the poet's life, Murphy devotes chapters to Stevens' early poetry of the earth and later poetry of the soul.
