Sinopsis
Griffiths (Hispanic studies, U. of Birmingham) examines how the Spaniards conceived religious repression in the former Inca Empire, and how Andeans responded to repression through the 17th and 18th centuries, exploring in detail the conceptual framework and methods the Spaniards used to interpret native religion. He looks at Spaniards' identification of the native shaman with the sorcerer, and explains how Andean spiritual traditions adapted to Christianity. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
