Artists were the first to eject their dull and insipid Brussels carpets in favor of these lively, colorful products of the East, and the art-loving public was not slow in following their example. They all could feel very proud if they were able to acquire a few cheerful little prayer rugs and employ them as table-covers, as scatter rugs, or as throws for couches and as coverings for pillows. They thought themselves indeed fortunate to possess these valued specimens of the famous old "Persian knotted work as such pieces were termed when they first made their appearance in the shops.
