A lawyer once asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. When Jesus asked the man what was written in the Law, he replied, "`Love the Lord your God with all of your heart'...and, `Love your neighbor as yourself" (Luke 10:27). When Jesus told the man that he had answered correctly, the lawyer then asked, "And who is my neighbor?" His question initiated a very interesting conversation. Rather than offering the lawyer an exhaustive list of neighbors and non-neighbors, Jesus told a story...a tale we know as the Parable of the Good Samaritan.
From that famous story, Who is My Neighbor? draws more than 40 characteristics of the man who was beaten, robbed and left for dead on the road to Jericho---the character Jesus created to show His followers how to recognize our neighbors. Dr. Wayne Gordon brings the forsaken traveler vividly to life and shows you how to use Jesus' parable as a starting point for your relationships in your community and interactions with the world. As you catch Jesus' radical vision of what it means to be a Good Samaritan, you'll also find practical suggestions for meeting needs and changing the lives of those around you...that is, your neighbors!
Who is My Neighbor? is a thoughtful and prayerful read that will help each one of us more fully live out Jesus' commandment to love our neighbors.
