“Bill’s original Cert Prep guides were used throughout Sun’s service organization as the SEs studied for Certification. This was not mandated by Sun management but happened through word-of-mouth by those software engineers who had successfully passed the exam. In this new edition, Bill adds a chapter to explain the boot process (from POST to service initialization through SMF) on both SPARC and x86 systems. All chapters have been updated to reflect the Solaris 05/08 updates including detailed coverage of the x86 platform. This new guide is still the best source I know of to study for the exam. —Brian Howard, Systems Engineer / Solaris Ambassador

June 6, 2011: A note for those of you taking the Oracle Certified Professional Solaris 10 System Administator Exam - 1Z0-877
Oracle recently changed the exam number for the Oracle Certified Professional Solaris 10 System Administator Exam, Part 1 from CX-310-200 to 1Z0-877. This book was published before that change, so please make note of the change. In addition, Oracle has moved some of the exam objectives from the part 2 exam to the part 1 exam (ie. ZFS, Managing Core Dumps, Virtual File Systems, Network Basics, Live Upgrade ). Therefore, you'll need both the Part 1 and Part 2 versions of this book to prep for the 1Z0-877 Part 1 exam. The material is still up to date and relevant but, you can no longer get by with the part 1 book only.
