`This gem of a book is truly a life saver to any doctoral student navigating the rough waters of the dissertation process. Drs Kjell Rudestam and Rae Newton take a usually convoluted process and map out a clear path that is easy to follow from start to finish. This book was my bible going through my dissertation. The authors′ clarity of writing and comprehensive thought allowed me to easily take the principles off the pages and put them into practice. I highly recommend it!′ - Dennis S Reina, PhD , Co-author of Trust & Betrayal in the Workplace
`An important resource guide for advising graduate students who may have feelings of anxiety, self-doubt, and dread. This book is also a must for doctoral advisors who have long wished for a compendium of down-to-earth wisdom about the dissertation process that could help graduate students get the most out of their doctoral experience′ - David G. Behrs, Marymount University
`The authors write from the position of the ideal mentor, presenting the issues doctoral students would like their chairpersons to discuss with them, yet rarely have done. Additionally, the student perspective is integrated into the text through numerous examples from a wide range of disciplines. Although there are several related handbooks on the market, few combine the complexities of dealing simultaneously with content and process. Surviving Your Dissertation provides a readable, comprehensive guide to maximize success for doctoral students′ - Marilyn M Irwin, Indiana University, from The Library Quarterly
`This revised edition (2001) is easy to read and contains useful advice and practical tips for potential masters or PhD students and those already embarked on this journey′ - Janette C Allotey, Nurse Researcher
In the new Second Edition of this bestselling text, the authors: expand their coverage of qualitative methods with updates on qualitative methods computer packages, action research and mixed methods; include the latest information on the use of statistics packages such as SPSS, SAS and SYSTAT; provide new writing tips, including the latest research on cognitive techniques for over-coming writer′s block; suggest new strategies for organizing a dissertation, including the use of various writing packages; and expand on their coverage on using computers to do research literature reviews.
