Reseña del editor:

This is an illustrated exploration of the artists, their lives and contexts, with a gallery of 290 of their greatest paintings. It offers a vivid account of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, who sought to defy the modern aesthetic and to return to classical artistic ideals. It includes fascinating biographies of key members of the brotherhood, including John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and Ford Madox Brown, among others. It features a beautiful gallery of all of the Pre-Raphaelites' most significant works accompanied by an in-depth analysis of their style and technique. It explores the ethos of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, how it was represented through art, and how it was received by contemporary critics. It is lavishly illustrated with 500 stunning images. This impressive new book opens by looking at key Pre-Raphaelite artists in turn, documenting the artists' lives and the development of their talents. The stories behind some of the group's most iconic paintings, such as Millais' Ophelia, are also detailed. There follows a stunning gallery of more than 290 Pre-Raphaelite works. Each painting is accompanied by an insightful analysis that explains the significance of the work. This is an essential volume for anyone wanting to learn more about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their ethos, and offers the opportunity to study their greatest works in one beautiful collection.
